This paper aims to examine the impact of illegal immigration on India’s border security and foreign policy, focusing on Myanmar. It explores how immigration affects India’s security mechanisms, socio-economic conditions, and diplomatic relations, while analysing the country’s policy responses. Using a qualitative research methodology, the paper relies on secondary data from government reports, policy documents, scholarly articles, and case studies. The findings reveal that illegal immigration significantly impacts national security, local communities, and foreign policy. Despite various border management strategies, the effectiveness of these policies has been limited, pointing to the need for enhanced cooperation with Myanmar. The paper concludes with policy recommendations to strengthen border security and improve diplomatic engagement with Myanmar.
