The present research paper aims at understanding the contribution of higher education in the extent of health modernity among urban women in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh state in India. As education implies broadening of knowledge base, thus, higher the education level, higher will be the level of understanding. And health modernity implies the scientific understanding of health. In this way, health modernity will be influenced by education of the respondents. After reviewing the existing literature, the researchers have chosen a descriptive research design to carry out the present study. This study is empirical and the researchers have collected data from 77 highly educated women from Meerut city. The inclusion criterion is that the participants are at least graduated and are selected purposively from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. A structured interview schedule is used to collect the data and the analysis of data is done through simple statistics techniques. The study has found that the highly educated respondents have sufficient knowledge only in the areas of nutrition level and family planning. It means that there is less significant contribution of higher education in the extent of health modernity of women. This study highlights the shortcomings of education system in providing the scientific knowledge of health and its related matters. Thus, this research on health modernity will open up new possibilities for further studies in the field of sociology of health, sociology of education and gender studies. It will also be significant in exploring the other aspects and experiences of health across various communities.
