In the twenty-first century, India is considered the nation with a higher percentage of young population. But still, the population ageing in India has seen to be rising at a significant rate. At present the population remains 149 million persons aged 60 years and above in 2022, it might doubles in 2050. The Significant increase in the Population of the elderly provides various concerns such as a need for an increase in healthcare systems with focus on geriatric care and mental health facilities, pension reforms for financial assistance, inclusive infrastructure, labour concern in the economy. India has a National Policy for older persons, 1999 to provide comprehensive care and welfare to the elderly people. This paper provides a review of the challenges posed by the increasing population ageing and the measures taken by the government and other organisations, such as details of welfare programmes, policies, and schemes for senior citizens.
